Greetings Sinners & Saints members and Alumni!
Over the past nine months together, we have learned many things about churchplanting, community, and each other. While some of you have moved on, I wanted you to know what a great blessing each of you have been in the history of the Sinners & Saints community, and to Alan and I personally. We have laughed together, eaten together, boated together, moved together, prayed together, and supported one another. We have been a family.
This past Sunday morning, we met together to read Luke 10:1-24. In this passage, the seventy-two are sent out. The disciples have multiplied and Jesus sends a large group out to share their faith. If they are welcomed and their message is heard, Jesus instructs them to say, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’ (Luke 10:9). If they are not welcomed, and their message is rejected, they are instructed also to say, ‘be sure of this: The kingdom of God has come near.’ (Luke 10:11) Regardless of circumstance, God is present, the kingdom is near. As long as we are following God’s direction, as long as we are being faithfully sent out, no matter the outcome God’s kingdom is continually being realized.
Last Sunday we also shared our decision to take a break from our regular Sunday meetings. While our Sundays this summer with a smaller group at our home had been successful, as we moved from a community group setting to a Sunday morning service we realized not everyone was able to join us in the mission of churchplanting. At this time, we’ll be praying, reformulating, and asking for God’s wisdom as we decide what the next steps will be. Alan and I are even more convinced that the University District is in desperate need of a voice like that of Sinners & Saints to speak the Gospel’s grace and truth in the neighborhood. Please join us in praying for the U-District.
We are also writing to invite you to a gathering to honor our time together. We will be meeting the first Tuesday in October, October 5th, at 7pm at Lounjin to celebrate our time together as a community. You’re all welcome to join, share memories, and fellowship.
May God be with you as you are sent out to be part of realizing God’s kingdom here on earth.
With great joy,
