Growing as a Churchplant

Starting a church is like a cross between starting a business and starting a family. It’s intensely relational, requires all parties involved to rely upon each other, and forces you to initiate and build all the structures most established churches take for granted. Last week, we passed another milestone as a new churchplant. In addition to receiving our nonprofit status with the state of Washington, we also opened a bank account and received some of our first official financial contributions. For me, it was astonishing to know that there are people who believe in what God is doing here at Sinners and Saints so much that they’re sharing resources with us. What an humbling encouragement!

Over the next few months, we’ll be focusing on developing structures for our future as a church community. A few folks have volunteered to help with finances and we’ll be starting a fundraising campaign. We are looking forward to having monthly Bible Studies focused around worship, and are recruiting any Sinners and Saints regulars with musical skills to share their gifts with the community—just let me know if this means you! We’re having a visioning retreat in August as a community, a time for me to share how I believe God is calling us, and a time to listen to what other folks have been hearing. I am excited for us to continue exploring what it means for us to live out our faith together, here in Seattle. Won’t you join us for the journey?

See you Sunday for dinner (breakfast for dinner!) and Luke study,
Pastor Leah

Alan and a few friends of S&S will be hosting an Auto Repair and Maintenance workshop focused on oil changes and brake rebuilding this Saturday morning. They’re also thinking about an Auto Basics class in the future to cover the essentials every car owner should know. If you’re interested, let Alan know and he can get you on the list for the upcoming Auto Basics class. Workshops will be scheduled on Saturday mornings. More details to come.
