sinners & saints newsletter: may 24-30

28 May 2010

I spent this week at a teaching and discipleship retreat with 9 other pastors in the Colorado Rockies outside Denver. It was a beautiful retreat location, and allowed for a time of reflection on my own stage of life, and reflection regarding Sinners and Saints. I was reminded of how thankful I am for everyone who has prayed for us, supported us, and walked alongside us on this journey.

10,000 feet up in the Rockies, at frozen Echo Lake.

Last Sunday, we planned out a few events for the summer: a churchwide retreat in early August and a time of serving and connecting with the U-District community in mid-July. As we continue to plan our future as a faith community, please join me in prayer. This week I was convicted of the need for us to focus not on the chaos and busyness of life, but on God’s life-giving presence. I would like to invite you to join me in praying the hours. I’ll post more upon my return to Seattle (I’m posting from Denver International Airport) about what the hours are, and how we as a community can join together in prayer and discipleship.

We’ll see you on Sunday at our place, read below for the potluck details, and tentative retreat dates. Give me some feedback on whether or not you’ll be able to make it.

Peace to you this week,

Alan and a few friends of S&S will be hosting an Auto Repair and Maintenance workshop focused on oil changes and brake rebuilding. They’re also thinking about an Auto Basics class in the future to cover the essentials every car owner should know. If you’re interested, let Alan know and he can let you know if space is available, and get you on the list of the Auto Basics class. The workshop is free, and will be scheduled on an upcoming Saturday morning. More details to come. Email: connect@sinnersandsaintschurch.com

Join us on Thursday nights as we hang out with our neighbors, sort food, laugh, bag groceries, and have a good time. Up to 5 volunteers per week, send an email to connect@sinnersandsaintschurch.com to sign up or for more info!

    1. Leah,

A great observation from your retreat. I have not been in the trenches with you ( I have my own set), but my 5 days of silence with the Benedictines in the desert reaffirmed my need for solitude and silence, not as escape from the world and the messiness of ministry, but as a means to engaging the challenges fully aware, rather immersed, in a deep sense of God’s presence. I’ll be praying for you in a more focused way this next week. As always, you have my deep respect and support.
