Being the Church
Let me be the first to say it: last week was crappy. I mean that literally. Our Sunday night gatherings have been held at Alan and my home in Wallingford, but Saturday brought us a bit of a surprise in the form of a broken sewer pipe in the front yard. While walking over a hole filling with raw sewage and not using the toilet might be a new type of worship experience, we made the call to move the gathering at the last minute to another home.
What had been a not-so-great weekend also gave our community the chance to shine. People pitched in and made sure we had rides for everyone to the new location. Since I wasn’t able, someone else made dinner at the last minute, and gave me a place to take a shower. Offers for help came in from all around, and while we don’t quite have a resolution to the plumbing situation yet, Alan is working on it. At the end of the day, after a great dinner of nachos and a wonderful discussion about salvation, Jesus, healing, and faith, I was encouraged. Thank you, church family, for being the church to each other, and to me.
Blessings to each of you this week, and if you ever want to get together over coffee, let me know. I’d be more than happy to meet up.
